History of the Dutch Section and combustion research in The Netherlands.
The Combustion Institute was founded in 1954. From the beginning representatives from the Netherlands were involved. In 2004 the Institute celebrated its 50th anniversary. At the International Combustion Symposium in Chicago a booklet with contributions from all Sections was published. The contribution of the Dutch Section can be downloaded here:

Brief history of Combustion research in The Netherlands
It situates the start of research on combustion in 1928, in an industrial research laboratory in Delft, covers the important role played by the research station of the International Flame Research Foundation, and highlights the contributions from the groups of Prof. Hoogendoorn in Delft and Prof. de Goey in Eindhoven.
